[38th] Georgia. Tbilisi

[38th] Georgia. Tbilisi

Actually, going to Tbilisi I was absolutely sure that the city left much to be desired. Who would expect something extraordinary from a capital of a small country, which is obviously can't be called a tourists attraction and which is currently overwhelmed by lots of internal and external problems.

So the more I was suprised by its ancient beauty, breathtaking views and peculiar spirit.
The 1st 2 days I spent in Tbilisi were rainy, but nevertheless I liked it the moment I happened to see Metehi (my admiration for the churches and monasteries will be explained later )

I guess Tbilisi, to some extent, isn't that different from some well-known small European capitals like Prague or San-Marino.
The very center is covered with cobblestoned roads. Amazing old buildings and small churches delight your eye, Venice-like
old narrow streets invite you to discover them immediately and promise you many surprises.
The streets are not really crowded, but life is going on there. So you can watch beautiful and smiling Georgian people for hours and admire their deliberateness (there is going to be a special text about them soon).
And both the city and the people seem to be part and parcel of   the mountains.

The most breathtaking view is Tbilisi at night. All the churches and old buldings are illuminated, and the mountain buildings seem to be soaking in darkness.

Unfortunately, the outskirts of Tbilisi or even some central areas may repel a fastidious tourist or at least make you feel sorry for its misfortune. But many buildings in Georgia are under reconstruction now. Local residents definetely have something unpleasant to say about their president, Misha Saakashvili, but everyone does approve of his attempts to make the country look better. And speaking about the government everyone also mentions the roads that are being repaired all over the country now.
And it was quite interesting and explainable that those neglected areas that the local residents are really ashamed of  for me were especially attractive and charming.

Although the city is very beautiful, in my pictures you're going to see mainly shabby buildings and graffiti just due to my perverted taste...
But if you want to see the "official" beauties of the city, I guess there's  no problem to google them
